How do chakra stones work and is there any science that can help me understand them better?

My students asked me to describe how chakra stones work, and I couldn't give a clear response. Is there any science or energetic reasoning behind the way that chakra stones are supposed to work? Do they send out frequencies or affect our biofield in ways that are quantifiable?

The Biofield: Science now recognizes the "Biofield" —a field of energy and information that surrounds the human body.
