Why binge emptiness sit name feeling flee kitchen?

There is a certain, momentary feeling before a binge, a sense of emptiness, of desperate worry. I want to sit with that feeling before I can flee to the kitchen in my meditation to recognize it. Is it loneliness? Rage? Fear? I can name it, I can deal with it. And yet the impulse to deaden it by food is so great and instantaneous that it all too often smothers the faint voice of inquiry before it can be heard.
