Why can't I let go of attachments deepening depression sense?

I understand that attachments and desires are blockages in this spiritual path, yet I struggle intensely to let them go. The more I try to discard them, the stronger they cling. This failure deepens my sense of depression and spiritual inadequacy. My name is Prakash, DOB 25th December 1979. Time: 8:00 PM. Location: Varanasi. Is this resistance rooted in a fear that letting go of desire means losing my sense of self or ego?
