Why confuse gut hunger heart pain cues language?

I am practicing meditation in order to hear the body. Do I have a real physical need in my gut, or is this gnawing sensation in my gut a pain in my heart in the guise of hunger? The feelings are disorientingly alike. Teaching to differentiate between them is a bit like teaching a new subtle language.
