Why do I feel like a fraud when trying to feel spiritual connection during meditation?

I try to follow guides that talk about universal love or spiritual connection, but I feel like a complete fraud and a skeptic. This makes my self-judgment worse. I worry that this emotional block is tied to my depression. Is it possible to gain therapeutic benefit without forcing the spiritual aspect? My name is Riya.
