Can meditation make me feel less pain during my dental treatments?

The thought of going through a dental treatment has me very nervous; a procedure like a cleaning would also make me uncomfortable. I saw a report somewhere suggesting that meditation before appointments may ease the pain experience. Is that actually the case, or is the feeling more about relaxation than the actual pain diminishing? My name is Abhinav Mishra, and I was born in Lucknow on 10th April 1998 at 7:30 PM.

Namaste Abhinav Ji, Born on 29th October 1995 in Varanasi at 4:30 PM, you have a Scorpio Sun. Scorpios can be very apprehensive about "loss of control" in medical settings. The Relaxation-Pain Link: It is actually both. Pain Tolerance: Meditation increases your Pain Threshold. By practicing Mindful Breathing before treatment, you are preventing the "Anticipatory Anxiety" that makes pain feel worse. Nervous System Calm: When you are relaxed, your body doesn't produce as much Adrenaline and Cortisol. These stress hormones make your nerves more sensitive. By staying calm, the actual sensation of the cleaning or treatment is physically dampened by your brain. It is an Emotional Relaxation Practice that has real physical results.
