How does meditation help people with chronic body pain like fibromyalgia?
I suffer from fibromyalgia, and the pain, which seems to have gone on a tour around my whole body, is always with me, also on my good days, I guess. As far as I know, meditation is one of the methods through which chronic pain patients get a sense of control over the pain. Really, though, the question is: how does meditation alter the pain pathways in the brain? My name is Shreya Bansal, and I was born in Mumbai on 22nd August 1999 at 9:50 AM.

Fibromyalgia is a condition of "Central Sensitization"—where the brain’s volume control for pain is stuck on "High." Re-wiring the Pathways: How does meditation alter the brain? Pain Response Meditation: In Fibromyalgia, the brain is "hyper-vigilant." Meditation increases the Gray Matter in the parts of the brain that regulate emotions and decreases it in the areas that perceive pain. Acceptance Training: It helps you move from "Pain is my enemy" to "Pain is a signal." This shift reduces the Nervous System Arousal, which in turn lowers the "all-over" body pain. It gives you a sense of Holistic Health Recovery by letting you control your response to the condition.
