Will tapping meditation help me control my anger issues?

I have had anger issues recently, and I am easily irritated by the small things. To ease my outbursts, my psychologist suggested a tapping meditation. But I really don’t understand how simply tapping on the face can help me get rid of anger. Is it that the body gets really calm, or is it that I just get distracted?
