Why am I breathless and getting chest tightness whenever I meditate?

Name: Meenal, Date of birth: 14 April 2000, Place of birth: Bhopal, Time: 7:40 AM. When I sit down to meditate, I sense that my breath is shallow and my chest tightens. Instead of calming down, I start to panic and feel as if I'm doing the wrong thing. I've tried many different techniques, but the tension in my body just doesn't go away. Why do I feel constricted and breathless whenever I attempt meditation? Is this a sign of resistance to anxiety or something deeper in my energy or birth chart?

Hello Meenal. When you focus on your breath, you likely start "Manual Breathing"—trying to control it. This leads to "Over-Breathing," which makes your chest feel tight and signals your brain that you are suffocating. The Solution: "The Sigh of Relief." Don't focus on the inhale. Just focus on making your exhale twice as long as your inhale. Or, try "Humming" (Bhramari Pranayama). The vibration of the hum in your chest physically breaks up the tension and prevents the "constricted" feeling. Insight: Born April 14, you are an Aries. Aries rules the head, but its "opposite" sign, Libra, rules the breath/balance. Your tension comes from trying to "force" the breath.
