Why do I attract emotionally unavailable people even when I crave commitment?

So, no matter how hard I try, I end up loving men who cannot love me back. I get so emotionally invested in that man, but at the end of the day, he is not gonna have me, he is not going to love me back. And this triggers my anxiety. So, why do I keep attracting partners who are unavailable? Is this a karmic lesson in love? Is this something related to my past lessons, past karma?
