Step 4: Find the Dosha and Cancellation Section

A basic report just says "Bhakoot Dosha: Yes." A complete one says something like this:

Bhakoot Dosha: Present (2/12) · Cancelled. Reason: Moon-sign lords Venus and Mercury are mutual friends.

Step 5: Check Manglik Status in Your Kundli Matching Report

Manglik Dosha isn't part of the 36 gunas. So look for a separate section that shows:

• Is the bride Manglik? From the Lagna, the Moon or Venus?
• Is the groom Manglik?
• Is the dosha cancelled? For example, both are Manglik, or Mars is in its own sign.

Step 6: Look for the "Beyond Gunas" Notes

Better reports, and every astrologer consultation, add notes on:

• The 7th house and 7th lord in both charts
• Venus and Jupiter strength
• Navamsa (D9) compatibility
• Current dasha periods and suggested timing

Try this habit. Sum up any report in a single sentence, like this:

"27/36, Nadi full, Bhakoot cancelled, no Manglik issue, good match. Next step: check dasha timing for a muhurat."

Or like this:

"16/36, Nadi Dosha not cancelled, both Manglik (cancelled). Needs full chart review, remedies and medical screening before deciding."

In a family discussion, that one line is far more useful than "only 16 gunas."

Kundli Matching by Name vs Date of Birth vs Without Birth Time

How much should you trust each method? Let's go through them.

Kundli Matching by Date of Birth (Most Accurate)

This uses each person's real Moon position, worked out from date, time and place of birth. It gives an accurate nakshatra, pada, rashi, Lagna, Manglik status and Navamsa.

Use it when: you have full birth details for both. It's the gold standard.

Kundli Matching by Name (A Traditional Shortcut)

No birth details? Tradition uses the first syllable of each person's name to estimate the nakshatra. Each nakshatra pada is linked to a sound:

So "Vivek" gets Rohini (pada 3), and "Kavya" gets Mrigashira (pada 3).

The catch: this works well only if the name was chosen from the birth nakshatra, as many traditional families do. Most modern names are picked for other reasons. In that case, the name nakshatra may not match the real Moon nakshatra, and the score may not reflect the actual charts.

Know the date and place but not the time? Here's what still works:

• Moon sign: The Moon moves about 13° a day, so the sign is usually right, unless it changed signs that day.
• Nakshatra: Often correct, unless it changed that day.
• Lagna, Manglik (from Lagna), houses and Navamsa: These can't be found reliably.
